Basic Info
Name:Hao
Bio
Currently in Milliways: Hao is present in his third incarnation, approximately ten years of physical age. The Spirit of Fire is with him, and may be visible as a little flame, hovering in the general vicinity of Hao.

Stats:

Name: (Asakura) Hao
Age: 15 (in this body)
DOB: May 12, 1985 (in this body)
Blood Type: A
Likes: Curry bread, soy sauce

Appearance:

Hao is, to all appearances, a short, skinny teenager, with overly long dark brown hair, and dark brown eyes. He's typically bare-chested, wearing jeans and baggy chaps, along with heavy boots and gloves; not that that necessarily matters, because he's usually also completely swathed in a big, full cloak.

Under the cloak, and baggy clothes, his body is hard with lean muscle, and stronger than it looks, and he moves with surety, but there's still that gangly teenaged unfinishedness about him; his hands and feet, certainly, are too big for his body as it is now, and indicate that he'll probably be pretty tall when he finishes growing.

His eyes, if you're perceptive enough, give a lie to the appearance of a teenager; they are much, much older than that, jaded, and bitter, and cynical, and he doesn't bother to hide it. They can also be gentle, but normally, his eyes hold a deep superiority, and knowledge, and surety, that only seems like arrogance if you don't know him, or lack the sensitivity to sense what he is.

Personality:

Hao is, above everything else, supremely confident. He has no doubts, and treats his actions as a simple matter of fact; to him, they are, and he's good enough to back up that assumption. As a result, he often comes off as arrogant, even when he isn't.

He's strong, and ruthless, and very self-centered; he'll kill allies and enemies alike, if it suits him, or if they offend, or on an apparent whim (although he usually has a reason, even if it's only to devour their souls). For all that, he can be very gentle, introspective, and even caring, although very, very, very few ever get to see that side of his personality.

He has a great deal of respect for nature, and for those with the strength of will to stand behind their words and beliefs - or the nerve to at least try, when they come against him - but none at all for humanity. Hao is a misanthrope par excellance, to the point where he desires nothing more than to wipe out humanity, and create a world populated only by shamen, who he sees as being superior in every way to humanity in general. Lord Voldemort has nothing on how much this guy hates Muggles.

He treats this goal with the same matter of fact approach as he does everything else - it will happen, it's only a matter of time. He's honest about it though, and about most other things; he just doesn't see a point to sneaking around, and lying about things, although he will - and does constantly - lie by omisson; however, if asked point blank about something, even about himself, he's likely to give an honest answer, and congratulate the asker for their observational skills.

That tendency towards honesty doesn't translate into one of openness, however; just the opposite in fact. There are very few people allowed close enough to him to really get to know him at all, and fewer still observing from outside who can pick up anything of his real character.

Powers:

In his first life, Hao was an onmyouji - and the very best of those, at that, with unparalleled mastery of all five elements, and a deep and thorough understanding of oni, demons, and spirits of all kinds. To this day (in his own canon, at least), his strength and skill are unmatched.

In his second life, he was a shaman of the Patch tribe; again one of unparalleled skill and strength, able even to control one of the Five Great Elemental Spirits.

In his current life, he retains all of that power and more, having died, and returned to life. As well, he retains the Spirit of Fire - one of the Five Great Spirits - and can increase his own power by eating other spirits; either himself, directly, or by feeding them to the Spirit of Fire.

As a shaman, a lot of his immediate apparent power comes from his ability to control and use the Spirit of Fire in its various forms. However, his powers are not limited to that.

It can be assumed that any and all abilities traditionally ascribed to onmyouji or medicine men are available to Hao. Additionally, he haas a number of other more specific abilities, such that to be able to change one element into another (as fire into water, demonstrated in canon), or to revive the dead.

Most notably - as it affects others directly, and has shaped his character in massive, profound ways - Hao is a mind-reader. It is not something he can control, so much, in that he cannot decide to not do it. It is a power that is 'always on,' so to speak; unless someone has psychic defences of their own, he will read their thoughts. The good, the bad, the personal and idle. It is this power that has rendered him so bitter; he's spent a thousand years knowing how much people - normal humans especially - hate and fear him.

Additionally, although it has only made a brief appearance in canon, Hao also possesses the ability to project his thoughts to others, although this is not by any means his preferred method of communication.

Background:

Note: Background contains spoilers for the Shaman King manga. Highlight to read.

Although Hao's current body is only fifteen years old, his

mind and his soul are much, much older. Originally, he was

born more than a thousand years ago, in the Heian era of

Japan.

Born into a world and time full of hardship and strife, Hao

grew from a kind and gentle boy into a hard and bitter man, disillusioned to the better nature of humanity from years spent listening to thoughts filled with hate, and fear, and darkness, and determined to wipe them away, and create a world only for shamans. To that end, he joined the Shaman Fight, and endeavoured to become Shaman King, and gain the power of the Great Spirit.

Ultimately, in that life, he was only thwarted by the combined power and efforts of the entire rest of his family (also shamans of various stripes). However, he had already acquired enough power, skill, and knowledge to control his own reincarnation, and five-hundred years later, shortly before the next Shaman Fight, he reincarnated himself as a member of the Patch tribe, those entrusted with the governance of the Shaman Fight.

In that life, too, he was again ultimately thwarted by th Asakura family, in the form of one of his own descendants, with the help of the spirit of the only friend he had ever had, a cat named Matamune.

Undaunted by this, Hao waited another half-millennium, and then reincarnated himself again, in time for the next Shaman Fight, choosing this time to be born once more into the Asakura family - his own descendants. Things didn't go quite as planned that latest time though, and he accidentally incarnated into twins.

Neither that, nor his current parents' attempt to kill him at birth have slowed him in the least, however, and fifteen years later, he continues on to his inevitable ascension to the throne of Shaman King.
